Governance Center for Public Policies (GCPP), in partnership with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), held a workshop in Erbil entitled Integrating the Perspective of Youth in Public Policy Making to Establish Peace and Security in Iraq in accordance with the UN Resolution 2250, on 7/7/ 2022.
The workshop dealt with the essential role of youth in the development process in Iraq, based on their distinguished abilities and talents, However, the lack of opportunities for their participation due to the lack of resources, and the absence of appropriate support and encouragement to push them towards a better future, shows the need to involve them in policy-making because of their promising and contemporary political, social and economic vision that would solve many problems and crises.
In this context, the political transformations that Iraq witnessed after 2003 led to the creation of a pluralistic democratic system that provides the opportunity for youth participation and freedom of civil work, as the opportunities available to young people to participate in political life depend a lot on the political and cultural context. Whereas, the democratic environment is suitable for youth participation.
The workshop included a number of axes dealing with youth issues at various levels. It concluded the need to invest in young people in order to enhance their capabilities and empower them to face social challenges and contribute to the development of society. As Meeting the needs of this segment is the gateway to advancement and success, and winning in a battle of Change is mainly related to gaining the best of young people.
The workshop witnessed the wide participation of the number of professors specializing in youth-related issues from various governorates of Iraq and university institutions, as well as civil society organizations, activists, media, and legal professionals.
